Associate Professor Kavitha Subramaniam
Associate Professor Kavitha Subramaniam graduated in medicine from the University of Western Australia. She undertook her advanced training in Gastroenterology in Perth, Western Australia leading to a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is a senior staff specialist in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit at the Canberra Hospital and a full-time practising procedural gastroenterologist serving the local Canberra community as well as the surrounding regions since 2013.
She practices all aspects of gastroenterology and performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Her clinical practice not only involves complex inflammatory bowel diseases but also functional gastrointestinal disorders, colorectal cancer screening and management of gastrointestinal bleeding. She is actively involved in clinical research in these areas including multi-centre clinical trials in inflammatory bowel diseases. She has published journal articles widely especially on inflammatory bowel diseases. She continues to be involved in teaching and training medical students, junior medical doctors as well as Gastroenterology advanced trainees.
Assoc. Prof. Subramaniam has served on a number of local, national and federal government committees. She has been a founding member of Gastroenterological Network for Intestinal Ultrasonography. She has been a very active executive committee member of the Gastroenterology Society of Australia Inflammatory Bowel Disease Faculty for at least five years. She has been on the organising scientific program committee for the Australian Gastroenterology Week 2021-2022 (Sydney) as well as the World Congress of Gastroenterology and Australian Gastroenterology Week 2024-2025 (Melbourne). She has been involved in various capacities with Therapeutic Goods Administration including Member of Advisory Committee on Medicines for at least three years.
